No charges have been filed against Mercutio Southall Jr., an Alabama Black Lives Matter activist, for disrupting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s rally in Birmingham this past Saturday. And thus far, no charges have been made against any Trump supporters who physically attacked Southall either.
Southall has said he would not mind a police investigation into the matter, but Birmingham police say he has not contacted them regarding pursuing a complaint. Southall, who said he was called racial slurs, kicked and choked during the attack, is no stranger to Birmingham activism. He’s led protests and been arrested before, including protesting the July 2015 death of Kindra Chapman in a local jail.
Trump said back in August that he, or his supporters, would physically fight any attempts by Black Lives Matter activists to take his microphone during a rally. So naturally, Trump defended the actions of his supporters, saying maybe Southall “should have been roughed up.”
And people wonder why they call them Repugnicans.
