Donald Trump vowed to forego a third-party run and stick with the GOP during last night’s debate, but we still don't know whether the other candidates on that stage will stick with The Donald if he's the nominee.
That question was never asked on the main stage, not even of the person who was clearly spoiling for a fight with Trump: Jeb Bush. His campaign has reportedly looked into whether dissing Donald would pose problems for Jeb! in certain primary states that require party loyalty pledges. And Bush all but announced that he wouldn't support Trump, continually deriding his as the "chaos candidate" who lacked "seriousness" and warning him, "You can’t insult your way to the presidency." That was probably Bush's biggest applause line of the night.
Jeb! also skewered Trump's Muslim ban.
“Look, this is not a serious proposal. In fact, it will push the Muslim world, the Arab world away from us at a time when we need to reengage with them to be able to create a strategy to destroy ISIS.”
Bush even interrupted Trump to make a point, then assertively puffed out his chest after Trump called him on it.
TRUMP: Am I talking or are you talking, Jeb?
BUSH: I'm talking right now. I'm talking.
TRUMP: You can go back. You're not talking. You interrupted me.
So just like conservative host Hugh Hewitt asked Trump whether he would stand by the GOP, it's time for people like Jeb Bush to say whether they would stand by Trump as their nominee.
If they're "serious," that is.
