Ben Carson is looking to get back some of the campaign mojo he’s lost in recent weeks, and in the 2016 Republican presidential primary, what better way to get attention and the affection of base voters than anti-Muslim bigotry?
Two members of the Council on American-Islamic Relations will be State of the Union guests, invited by Democratic members of Congress, and Carson thinks Action Must Be Taken:
Speaking to CNN Tuesday morning, Carson said he has called for an investigation of the group, accusing them of having "done things that are clearly not pro-American."
"Let's go ahead and investigate the thing," he said. "Let's not be giving them access to the ability to further carry on what they call a civilization jihad, and to change us from a Judeo-Christian foundation to a Muslim foundation. We have got to be smarter than that."
Oh, Ben Carson. Neurosurgeon or no, please don’t be lecturing us about what we have got to be smarter than.
Also, supposing that CAIR was intent on carrying out something it was calling a civilization jihad to force the U.S. to change to a Muslim foundation, how exactly would two people sitting quietly in the audience at the State of the Union give them access to the ability to further carry that out? Their presence is symbolic, to show that Muslims are Americans too. That’s not a thought that the Republican presidential field wants much to do with, but considering that there are millions of Muslim Americans, this should not be groundbreaking new symbolism.
