Ted Cruz is now the subject of an official birther lawsuit—and he’s probably thrilled about it. The suit, filed by an 85-year-old Texas lawyer, checks just about every box Cruz would want:
Newton B. Schwartz, Sr., who is leaning toward supporting Bernie Sanders for president, filed the lawsuit seeking a declaratory judgment in the U.S. District Court in Southern District of Texas, as reported by Bloomberg News.
A Democrat with questionable sourcing (C-SPAN callers, really?) and a laundry list of unrelated political-type issues? This is perfect material for Cruz the next dozen times he wants to mock Trump or anyone else for raising the question of whether being born in Canada makes him ineligible for the presidency.
What may make Cruz less happy is that he likely will have to address this a dozen more times, because the questions aren’t going away, especially with legal scholars beyond Tribe arguing that his eligibility is far from settled.
