Marco Rubio has nothing but kind, and completely delusional, words for Gov. Chris Christie, the guy who might have single-handedly ended Rubio's political career by pointing out he might just be a robot. First of all, he told CNN, he's reached out to Christie to "make amends."
"We've tried to get ahold of him," Rubio said on CNN's “State of the Union.” “I think he’s taking a few days away from the grind. And I understand that. I know we spoke to his staff.” […]
“I want to be clear I have no animus toward Chris,” Rubio said. “I like him very much. I always have. This is a political campaign. It’s a competitive environment, and people are going to exchange. And we gave as good as we got.”
Hahahahaha! "We gave as good as we got!" Oh, Marco. Asked again about his debate tormentor, Rubio told Face the Nation's John Dickerson that "the debate wasn't the reason why Chris is not in the race now." Yeah, I don't think that was ever in question. And yet, Rubio remains magnanimous: "I like Chris Christie. And I think he has a future in public service beyond being governor of New Jersey. I don't think we have heard the last of his service." It almost sounds like Rubio is envisioning a Rubio/Christie ticket!
As for the whole embarrassing debate performance itself? Rubio told George Stephanopoulos on This Week that the only reason he came out looking so bad was because he refused to sink to Christie's level.
I mean I—I always try to avoid that sort of engagement. It got me into trouble a week ago, unfortunately. I had a bad moment because I chose not to go after Governor Christie and instead kind of respond by pivoting back to the central issues in this campaign.
Pathetic.
