Donald Trump is showing just what a reasonable adult he can be, if you set the bar low enough. See, his plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States would have exceptions … like the mayor of London.
“There will always be exceptions,” Mr. Trump said when asked in an interview on Monday how his proposed ban would affect London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan.
“I was happy to see that,” Mr. Trump said of Mr. Khan’s election. “I think it’s a very good thing, and I hope he does a very good job because frankly that would be very, very good.”
So rather than ban specific individuals who are judged dangerous for some reason, Trump’s America would ban every member of a major world religion, unless they should happen to be elected mayor of the capital of a major ally. Wow, so open-minded.
Khan is not gushing over being an exception to Trump’s bigoted plans, tweeting that “Trump's ignorant view of Islam could make both our countries less safe.” What's more, he isn’t interested in being a one-man exception, saying “This isn't just about me—it's about my friends, my family and everyone who comes from a background similar to mine, anywhere in the world.” We have to presume that Trump missed most of this message after dissolving into utter confusion at the challenge to his world view presented by the words “this isn’t just about me.”
