It wasn't enough that Donald Trump pointed out that a federal judge hearing one of his 3,500 lawsuits is "Mexican" no less than six times during a CNN interview that aired Sunday. Now he's on the trail of Muslim judges too, reports Maggie Haberman.
Donald J. Trump said Sunday that a Muslim judge might have trouble remaining neutral in a lawsuit against him, extending his race-based criticism of the jurist overseeing the case to include religion and opening another path for Democrats who have criticized him sharply for his remarks. [...]
Mr. Dickerson asked Mr. Trump if, in his view, a Muslim judge would be similarly biased because of the Republican presumptive nominee’s call for a ban on Muslim immigrants. “It’s possible, yes,” Mr. Trump said. “Yeah. That would be possible. Absolutely.”
When Mr. Dickerson noted that there is a tradition in the United States, a nation of immigrants, against judging people based on their heritage, Mr. Trump replied: “I’m not talking about tradition. I’m talking about common sense, O.K.?”
Wow, Trump's got quite a racket going. You vilify someone, disparage their heritage, then question their integrity by suggesting that they might object to your consistently objectionable comments. Works every time.
In the case of Judge Gonzalo Curiel—who's an American from Indiana, btw—Trump claimed he couldn't be impartial because, "I'm building a wall, OK? I'm building a wall." So essentially, anyone who's on the receiving end of one of Trump's racist, xenophobic, misogynistic rants is impeachable in Trump's view. Isn’t that handy.
