Paul Ryan called Donald Trump’s remarks "the textbook definition of racism." And he still, still, insists that he’s supporting Trump. Lindsay Graham, who has previously said he won't vote for Trump, had more to say about Trump's remarks.
"This is the most un-American thing from a politician since Joe McCarthy," Graham told The New York Times regarding Trump's comments. …
"If anybody was looking for an off-ramp, this is probably it," he added.
Graham also called Trump’s remarks “demagoguery at its worst.”
But everyone just calm down now. It’s not that bad. Not according to Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch.
The Utah senator said in a gaggle with reporters on Capitol Hill that he thought Trump needed to "tone it down a bit" and there was no need to make "outrageous statements." …
"From what I know about Trump, he's not a racist but he does make a lot of outrageous statements," he added
See? Trump isn’t a racist. He just likes to toss off a few crazy comments. You know. Those un-American comments that are the textbook definition of racism. But not because he’s a racist.
Support roll call! Hatch?
When asked if Trump's comments about Curiel were so inappropriate that he'd rescind his support, Hatch said no.
Ryan?
"It's absolutely unacceptable," Ryan said. But he stood by by his support for the controversial business mogul.
Graham?
"If he continues this line of attack then I think people really need to reconsider the future of the party," Graham added.
Outrageous? Still support Trump. Textbook example of racism? Still support Trump. Un-American? Well, he’d better not keep that up.
Oh, and Lindsay Graham clearly hasn’t gotten the message that Joe McCarthy is a hero now. He’s out step with his party.
Perhaps if he purchased some new jackboots.
