Donald Trump isn't just refusing to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan in his primary, but has half a dozen former staffers actually working on Ryan's opponent's campaign. And Ryan still won't withdraw his support and can't provide an example of anything Trump could do to make it happen.
Meantime, the dispute is sucking the oxygen from any message Ryan is trying to send in Wisconsin.
JANESVILLE, Wis. — House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said Friday that he remains unsure whether Donald Trump’s public drama with him over a possible endorsement has concluded, hours before the GOP presidential nominee holds a rally in this battleground state.
“Heck if I know,” Ryan said Friday in an interview with WISN radio’s Jay Weber. “I’m not going to try to psychoanalyze this stuff.”
It should be the focus because it's a reflection of just how craven Ryan is. Trump is clearly the worst (and most deserved!) thing that has happened to the Republican party, but also clearly the most dangerous major party candidate the nation has ever faced. That threat is not enough to bring Ryan to disavow his party's nominee. Not enough for Ryan to care about what happens to this country. Now rumor has it that Trump is getting set to make a Ryan endorsement, so if Ryan is going to cut himself loose from Trump, now’s the time.
But he won’t. Ryan's not fit to lead. His party certainly isn't fit to control the House.
So please, contribute $1 to each of our six endorsed candidates to help send a stinging rebuke to Donald Trump and turn the House blue.
