The most expensive Senate race this cycle—Republican Sen. Pat Toomey versus Katie McGinty in Pennsylvania—just got another infusion of cash, with $10 million worth to close out the last week going to Toomey.
The Club for Growth, a free-market group Toomey once headed, kicked in $2 million for TV ad buys, along with a separate, $1 million infusion to a super PAC called National Horizon, which focuses on national security issues.
The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC close to Senate GOP leaders, spent another $6 million on TV ads (you've probably seen them, they're inescapable) and Prosperity for Pennsylvania, another super PAC (this one close to Toomey) spent $1.9 million, Tamari reported.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has also spent $1.9 million during the final two weeks of the race, Tamari reported, citing data provided by the organizations and public filings.
They’ve got some reason to be panicking over Toomey’s future. McGinty is maintaining a slim lead in the polls, currently 45 to 42 over Toomey.
While Toomey and McGinty together have spent about $31 million, outside spending is somewhere around $87 million and counting. That includes the usual suspects, the Kochs, going in for Toomey. Contrast that list of players with some of McGinty's big spenders—organized labor, including the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, as well as from environmental groups and Emily's List—and decide who'd better represent the people of Pennsylvania in the Senate.
Can you chip in $3 to Katie McGinty to send Pat Toomey packing?
