With a lot of help from the Heritage Foundation, Paul Ryan, and Mike Pence, incoming popular vote loser Donald Trump is getting ready to make war on a bunch of federal government agencies and programs that Republicans simply don't like—to the tune of cutting $10.5 trillion in spending over a decade.
While it's still unclear whether the cuts will extend to Social Security and Medicare (services that Trump's base voters cherish), it will absolutely target programs for minorities and other vulnerable populations (because, who cares about them?). Among other important services, they plan to choke off funds for the Justice Department’s 25 Violence Against Women grant programs that specifically seek to reduce sexual assaults, domestic violence, and stalking and help victims of such trauma.
Because in Donald Trump's world, there is no such as sexual assault or, for that matter, victims of it—they deserve it.
Alexander Bolton reports on the broader cuts:
The departments of Commerce and Energy would see major reductions in funding, with programs under their jurisdiction either being eliminated or transferred to other agencies. The departments of Transportation, Justice and State would see significant cuts and program eliminations.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting would be privatized, while the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities would be eliminated entirely.
Overall, the blueprint being used by Trump’s team would reduce federal spending by $10.5 trillion over 10 years.
