Yesterday, democratic senators Kaine and Warner chose to vote with the republicans in the Senate to confirm Trump’s CIA director pick Mike Pompeo. Those affirmative votes lent credibility to a man who has no business being director of the CIA. Every one of Trump’s picks has been straight out of some dystopian novel. It’s pretty clear that while the Koch brothers dislike Trump a great deal, they have learned that since he is a useful idiot in the early stages of dementia, that all they have to do is have someone close to Trump suggest their preference and he’ll go along with it.
That’s why we have a guy with 9 lawsuits against the EPA nominated for director of the EPA. That’s why we have Betsy, aka Professor Umbrage the deatheater nominated for secretary of education. That’s why we have Exxon mobile CEO nominated for the secretary of state. That’s why we have a guy that wants to dismantle net neutrality nominated to the FCC.
The list goes on and on.
It’s not exactly government by Putin, but it’s certainly government by Ayn Rand. That much is obvious.
So! Senate democrats feel they need to “pick their battles”. They come from “purple states” and are up for reelection in 2018. Gosh. That means we have to compromise with fascists in order to appear reasonable.
2017 is not 2009. It is not 2005. The cast of rotating villains is not acceptable anymore.
Progressives want unified resistance to the rise of fascism in the U.S.
You can’t just have the biggest protest in human history. Let that sink in. We just had the largest protest in human history waged against Trump and a few days later you think: Gosh — voters in my state want me to compromise with the republicans.
You’re ether fully bought, stupid, willfully ignorant, or willing to allow Nazi’s to rise.
Our democrats should not be going full Neville Chamberlain.
There were enough Neville comparisons since President Obama continually bent over to constantly try to appeal to the 20% of voters that though Bush could do no wrong. Demoralizing his own party.
Ah, Bush.
That name that right now we are wistfully remembering as not that bad anymore. Especially when compared to Trump.
Yet, during those years we got torture normalized, domestic spying normalized, our police force militarized, the largest crash since the Great Depression, two wars, lack of climate action, a U.S city destroyed, and the largest anti-war world wide demonstrations that have not been eclipsed until this past week.
Gosh.
You would think that after 2010, 2014, and now 2016 that democrats like Kaine and Warner would get a clue.
We want blood.
We want resistance.
We want bold leadership.
We want you to mitigate all the damage that is heading our way exceedingly fast.
Tweeting climate change information should not be considered an act of heroism. It’s a small change since over the last 8 years we’ve been allowed to talk about Climate Change and do nothing really to address it, but now, we can’t even talk about it.
These votes in the senate? They are a litmus test. Get it? We remember the cast of rotating villains. For those new to the political scene: It means that democrats will vote with republicans in the exact number needed to pass or not pass legislation. How many times did that happen during the Bush years? It expressly gave cover to the worst abuses of our government.
Now you want to play that same game over again? Go to hell.
This ain’t about some purity test. If we could go back in time and stop the Nazis, would we? I’d say yes. I’d very much like to stop the extermination of half my family in Europe. If you think a comparison to Nazis is to far. Get with it. This is how it started. Othering groups of people, mass propaganda, a contested election of a man clearly not qualified, and the willingness of the press to parrot, rather than challenge the rise of right wing extremism.
I’d rather the republicans go back to pretending they ain’t racist. Now? They feel emboldened.
YOU DO NOT PREACH RESISTANCE AND THE NEXT DAY VOTE WITH FASCISTS.
YOU DO NOT PREACH RESISTANCE AND THE NEXT DAY VOTE WITH FASCISTS.
YOU DO NOT PREACH RESISTANCE AND THE NEXT DAY VOTE WITH FASCISTS.
Maybe if you read that three times you’ll get the idea.
I watched the DNC forum the other day. You know what got a great applause? When Keith Ellison stood up and said you can’t preach resistance and then the next day vote with republicans.
Yet, that is exactly what you did Tim Kaine. It was bad enough you cost us millions of votes but now you want to enable republicans? After 8 years of obstruction? After unprecedented racism?
Get this:
Republicans paid 0 political price for saying No. That’s all they did. The entire 8 years they were petty children. Now you feel that you need to reward the brats? What kind of parent are you? Do you give in to your child when they are having a tantrum? I’d say most likely yes.
If you want to win. Get with the program and don’t vote for Republican nominees. If you can’t do that. Fuck you, you’re getting a primaries challenge.
The 90s and 00s are over.
Ask yourself:
