Nikki Haley may not have Donald Trump’s experience at insulting nations and threatening alliances, but she’s getting up to speed quickly.
New U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, pledged on Friday to overhaul the world body and warned U.S. allies that if they do not have Washington's back then she is "taking names" and will respond.
Haley didn’t specify what kind of action would be taken, but it’s a fair bet any offenders would find their names stripped from White House lunchroom side dishes (Freedom Fries Forever!).
Donald Trump spent much of his campaign tearing down NATO to the point where the EU is considering its own non-NATO bases and a new, America-free alliance.
Britain has blocked efforts towards building an EU military alliance, fearing it could undermine NATO.
But with Britain set to leave the bloc within the next few years, the calls for an EU military force could grow louder.
So it seems only right that Haley, confronting an organization that Republicans have always painted as the home of plans to cart away American independence in a secret squad of black helicopters, should start out with insults and threats.
A little-known alternate fact: The United States owns the UN.
Haley: This administration is prepared to have me go in, look at the UN, and everything that’s working we’re going to make it better. Anything that’s not working we’re going to try and fix. And anything that seems to be completely not necessary, we’re going to do away with.
There you go, world. The US is going to get rid of what Trump thinks is unnecessary, and take names of anyone who gets in the way. We’re fixing it for you.
You’re welcome.
