Donald Trump says he has “very good stuff” to back up his tweets claiming that President Obama wiretapped his phones during the campaign, but Trump’s getting no support from the Senate.
The Republican chairman and top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee said in a joint statement Thursday they have seen no evidence to support President Donald Trump’s claim about Trump Tower being wiretapped.
The committee found no evidence that Trump Tower was under surveillance by the FBI or by anyone else. Air quotes or no air quotes, it’s getting harder and harder to think of any way in which Trump’s claims could be even remotely true. Trump himself even seems to doubt Trump, but still acts as if he has a card or two to play.
He said he would be “submitting certain things” to a congressional committee investigating the matter and that he was considering speaking about the topic next week.
Apparently that committee is not the Intelligence committee, because they appear to be done. Then again, maybe Trump just intends to warp the nation’s mind through 11-dimensional tic-tac-toe.
"Let's see whether or not I prove it," Trump said. "I just don't choose to do it right now."
FBI Director Comey is expected to testify about this matter in open session on Monday.
