Nevada’s Dean Heller is the most vulnerable Republican senator up for re-election in 2018 and his plans for a Trumpcare vote are causing him serious angst, but he hasn’t drawn a serious opponent until now. Rep. Jacky Rosen, currently in her first term representing the swing 3rd Congressional District, has announced that she’ll run against Heller. Here’s the important part: she’s running at Harry Reid’s urging.
Rosen, 59, said that Reid reached out to her at the end of May and asked her to consider running for Senate. The longtime Democratic senator also encouraged Rosen, a former software programmer and synagogue president, to run for Congress in 2016.
“He told me to think about it and that’s what I did when I came home to talk to my husband,” Rosen said. “I’ve said this so many times before, my faith tradition teaches me that we’re supposed to leave the world a better place than when we found it, and it’s important that if you have the opportunity to stand up and make a difference for things that matter to you and to the people that you love and care about or your community that I should do that.” [...]
… Rosen said that Heller was the reason she decided to run for Senate instead of seeking a second term, criticizing his votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act, allow states to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood and confirm Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary.
Rep. Dina Titus hasn’t ruled out a run against Heller, but the important thing is that he has at least one serious opponent in Rosen.
