Remember that Republican donor who is suing the Republican Party for fraud over their seven years of promises, and ultimate failure, to repeal the Affordable Care Act? Turns out that, yes, that discontent is the tip of the iceberg, and yes, Republican donors are getting in on the internecine warfare.
At least $2 million in contributions promised to the National Republican Senatorial Committee have failed to materialize because donors are expressing frustration with the Senate GOP's inability to fulfill their central campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, according to two GOP sources familiar with the matter.
The shortfall, officials said, also points to a larger concern within the party that their core voters may be disillusioned heading into the 2018 midterms when Democrats have a serious shot of retaking the House. […]
The committee reported $16.2 million in cash-on-hand at the end of June, compared to $17.2 million for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, according to campaign finance filings.
The 2018 map for Senate Democrats remains really tough—it's 23 Democrats, a bunch of them in states that went for Trump in 2016, versus 10 Republicans up for re-election. But it's looking more and more likely that it's the Republicans who are going to be punished next year, and not just by voters.
But this also that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and team are going to keep on fighting for some kind of repeal. We're almost certainly going to be seeing the Bride of Zombie Trumpcare before the year is up. This donor boycott just highlights what a cash cow "repeal" has been for the Republicans, and how hooked their base is on it.
