Since Matt Lauer’s termination from employment at NBC was announced on air on Nov. 28, female co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb have been leading the popular morning show. It’s objectively good that Lauer has been ousted for his deplorable behavior (although it should have happened sooner), but there’s another aspect that will hopefully serve as positive reinforcement: the Lauer-free Today is dominating in the morning show ratings. The Hill reports:
"Today" beat rival "Good Morning America" by more than 539,000 viewers for the week ending on Dec. 1, according to Nielsen Media Research.
"Today" delivered an average 4.9 million viewers, while ABC's "GMA" registered 4.36 million. "CBS This Morning," which saw host Charlie Rose fired on Nov. 21, averaged 3.53 million.
On the day of the Lauer firing announcement, a whopping 5.74 million tuned in.
This must be a relief for the NBC executives who hired Megyn Kelly to host the latter half of the show. Since her takeover, ratings for her segment have been particularly dismal.
