The most destructive, least popular, most awfully massive piece of legislation probably ever just passed in the Senate, 51-48. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) who is ill, did not vote. The bill will have to go back to the House Wednesday morning, because Republicans are completely incompetent and messed it up on the first try.
Every Republican voted for it, every Democrat against. Never mind this:
Never mind that no serious tax expert, no economist has provided any hope that the thing they're hanging this vote on—the trickle-down economic boom that will save their skins in 2018 and 2020—will happen. They couldn't even get a good score when they had all their thumbs on the scale with their "dynamic scoring." We're not just talking about a shit sandwich here with this bill. It is a shit smorgasborg that will increase the riches of many members of Congress, and of course Donald Trump, Wall Street, and the 1 percent.
The perniciousness of the whole thing doesn't end there. Because this isn't just a massive tax cut for the already massively wealthy: it's a vehicle for Republicans to come back next year with the ammunition to destroy the safety net. "The deficit!" they will scream. "We must end Medicaid. We must roll back Medicare. We can't afford to provide food to people. Or housing. Or heat. Or education."
We're here to say that's not going to happen. We're here to make the next year sheer hell for every Republican who voted for this. We're here to take their jobs away. Let's get started now.
Hold Trump and Senate Republicans responsible for this disastrous tax plan. Help future Democratic challengers with your $3.
