So apparently the US is disinterested in respecting those fragile yet foundational Korea unification efforts and more interested in increasing tension between the ROK and the DPRK.
Pence, visiting South Korea for the Olympics, seems even more clueless than Agent Orange, critiquing yesterday’s military parade in North Korea right after the news broke of 45*’s desire for a military parade.
And then there’s those menacing threats and the reasons for parades...
“I also have come here to this peninsula to deliver a message directly to the leader of the North Korean dictatorship: The weapons you are acquiring are not making you safer,” Trump said in November. “They are putting your regime in grave danger. Every step you take down this dark path increases the peril you face.”
Trump's proposed parade has already been widely criticized because it will be wasteful, embarrassing, and beneath the dignity and honor of the United States military and its service people. Trump is indifferent to those concerns. As a would-be despot, Trump considers a military parade as his personal rite of power. On this point, he is correct. Such displays are expected from an authoritarian. And like his heroes and role models of despotic power, including Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussein, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan and China's Xi Jinping, Trump will not be denied his own martial spectacle.
