The question of what it takes to get fired from the Trump administration is still a nebulous one, but we know what doesn't get you fired. Health and Human Services deputy communications director Ximena Barreto was appointed by Trump last December; she was placed on leave last month after reporters discovered that Barreto had posted fiercely anti-Muslim messages on social media and had herself peddled "Pizzagate," the lunatic far-right conspiracy theory that very nearly got employees of a Washington restaurant killed. She also shared a post declaring that “our forefathers would have hung” former President Barack Obama and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
But Barreto wasn’t forced to resign. She apologized for her oopsies, waited out the leave and will be staying in the administration, albeit in a new, more mysterious position.
A subsequent CNN KFile review of her Twitter account "RepublicanChick" found that Barreto also repeatedly used the hashtag #BanIslam and shared conspiracy theories about the death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich. [...]
An HHS official told CNN's KFile Tuesday night that Barreto would not be returning to the public affairs department and would instead serve in a different role working on unspecified projects. The official would not elaborate any further on Barreto's new role.
A history of vicious public statements attacking Muslims, the pushing of lunatic conspiracy theories or the opinion that political opponents should be hung is, unsurprisingly, not enough to get you fired from Team Garbage Fire. It will, however, get you shuffled into one of the back rooms to work on some "unspecified projects." One can only imagine what those projects might be.
