Donald Trump believes GOP Rep. Jim Jordan "100 percent" even after five former wrestlers Jordan coached at Ohio State University have come forward to say he turned a blind eye to continued reports of sexual abuse within the wrestling program. At another unhinged campaign rally in Montana Thursday night, Trump joked about giving his possible 2020 challenger Sen. Elizabeth Warren a DNA test "very gently" in order to determine the heritage of a woman he's derisively tagged "Pocahontas."
Keep talking, Donny—the ladies ain't digging it. As a new Washington Post-Schar School poll found, only 32 percent of women approve of Trump's job performance while he enjoys a 54 percent approval rating among men.
On family separation ...
While 67 percent of women disapprove of Trump’s handling of the immigration issue, only 51 percent of men do.
And while a 41 percent plurality of women holds the Trump administration responsible for the family separations at the border, a 43 percent plurality of men say migrants are to blame.
On the economy...
Men are far more positive than women — 26 points more likely to approve of his handling of the economy and 13 points more likely to rate the economy positively.
That gender gap, especially among independent women, appears to be part of what’s nudging the generic slightly move toward Democrats in multiple polls. The Washington Post poll has the generic ballot favoring Democrats by 10 points nationwide (47 to 37 percent), while Civiqs polling now has it at seven points (49 to 42 percent).
Civiqs also shows independent women steadily moving more in the direction of Democrats in the last several weeks. While Democrats held an 11-point edge among independent women in mid June (45 to 34), they currently hold a 14-point edge (47 to 33 percent) among the group.
