This is not science per se, but it is a fascinating, finely written story of the escalating pathology and economic bind that drives some of the worst elements of the alt-right, aka Trump-loving White Supremacists:
Lane Davis was a far-right, pro-Trump media figure looking for his big break. Then he stabbed his father to death. … As his neighbors rushed outside, the pale, bearded, thickset man took a few slow steps into the street. One neighbor ran toward the Davis house, flashing a pistol. He ordered Lane to stop moving.
Big print media seems almost obsessed with reporting endlessly on what drives Trump voters. It’s not their only such habit: after every act of economic or international sabotage perpetrated by Putin’s Poodle we’re treated to endless articles on how the voters are sticking by Trump—hardly ever do we get to hear from any of the growing multitudes who have broken free of the cult. But most of those articles miss what’s at the sick, twisted heart of Trumpism by a heartland country mile. This one faces it head on.
- A 100 million year-old baby snake has been found well preserved in a hunk of amber.
- To touch the sun?
- A blast from the past: It’s always been about the money, whether it’s climate change denial or Trump’s predilection for Russia, it’s the dollars. With these wingnut assholes, it’s always the fucking dollars. And while it’s great that a handful of former Republicans like Joe Scarborough or Steve Schmidt have finally come around, they helped build this.
- We have a pretty badass new generation of ground-based telescopes with smart optics coming into their own lately. They’ve been finding new moons of Jupiter and one effort even captured a crisp image of distant Neptune comparable to those obtained during the Voyager fly-by in August of 1989. And this process is just in the testing phase.
