Barring unforeseen complications, Iowa will continue to be the home of America's Most Racist Congressman for at least the next two years. Iowa's Rep. Steve King is at this point infamous for his racist statements against non-white immigrants, his advocacy of white supremacist talking points, his retweets of neo-Nazi figures and his open endorsements of white nationalists in other nations; it's gotten to the point where even the National Republican Congressional Committee (no stranger to white nationalist rhetoric themselves) had to distance itself. Even the state's Republican governor has cringed away from him, albeit very, very belatedly.
King, however, is unrepentant. As far as he's concerned things are going just swimmingly.
“I’ve got colleagues coming up to me all the time I’ve been here this week going, ‘Man, I’m so glad you were able to withstand that. You didn’t deserve that. We know you,’” King said Friday after the House wrapped up its last vote of the week.
Mmm-hmm. Now maybe that's true, or maybe Steve King is making those flattering exchanges up. Perhaps those "colleagues" would step forward and identify themselves, so we have a clearer picture of who is "glad" that a House Republican can get away with promoting neo-Nazis and white supremacists without voters calling him to account.
Pipe up, fellas. Don't want to make ol' Racist Steve look like a liar, do ya.
