Another Democratic 2020 contender has entered the ring. New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker made it official in a video message (watch below), saying “We are better when we help each other.”
”I believe that we can build a country where no one is forgotten, no one is left behind,” Booker’s message continues. “Where parents can put food on the table; where there are good paying jobs with good benefits in every neighborhood; where our criminal justice system keeps us safe, instead of shuffling more children into cages and coffins; where we see the faces of our leaders on television and feel pride, not shame.”
He’s running as the anti-Trump in tone rather than in confrontation:
He also intends to appeal to the better angels of the Democratic Party — if they’re willing to listen — that it’s possible for a Democrat to work across party lines, three advisers familiar with Booker’s strategy told POLITICO.
Booker joins an increasingly crowded Democratic field that’s only expected to grow.
