It's another day in America and Donald Trump executed a hostile takeover of the nation's private sector over Twitter. "Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China," Trump huffed via tweet Friday, "including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the USA."
Trump added that he had a big announcement coming Friday afternoon regarding China's tariffs. Trump was set off by the fact that despite all his bluster and maniacal swipes at China over the past year, he still hasn't brought the Chinese government to heel. On Friday morning, China announced a new round of tariffs at an additional 5% to 10% on American goods.
Trump has been spooked all month over both internal and external reports that his supposed ace in the hole—the U.S. economy—is showing signs of slowing and could slip into recession. So naturally, he huddled with the superb braintrust he's assembled in the West Wing and came up with a methodical plan to shore up the economy and combat the damage his erratic tariff policy is doing to American markets and business investment.
