Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin will not run for governor of West Virginia in 2020, which is great news for Democrats who are hoping to take back the senate.
The senator, who served as governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010, stoked speculation in recent months about a possible run against Republican Gov. Jim Justice, saying in April that being governor of West Virginia is the “best job in the world.”
Granted, Manchin will continue to be a pain in the neck for Democrats, but at least it’ll be our pain, not Mitch McConnell’s joy.
