Six people have died from lung ailments connected to vaping with flavored e-cigarettes, so the Trump administration is jumping in to essentially ban "unauthorized, non-tobacco-flavored e-cigarette products." That includes mint and menthol.
This is "making it clear that we intend to clear the market of flavored e-cigarettes to reverse the deeply concerning epidemic of youth e-cigarette use that is impacting children, families, schools and communities," says Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.
Meanwhile, 2,639 children and teens have been killed by gun violence this year alone. They are a fraction of the 10,363 gun deaths since Jan. 1.
This is wrong. Incidentally, such a ban is also precisely what Moscow Mitch was trying to prevent with his bill to raise the legal age for purchasing tobacco. He was working with the other purveyor of death, the tobacco industry, to use that as a head-fake, distracting lawmakers from doing something drastic like banning flavored vaping products. No word from Mitch if he's going to intervene on behalf of Big Tobacco as he has for the NRA.
