At a private breakfast this morning in New York City, Donald Trump discussed the whistleblower complaint, telling attendees that the person who leaked information to the whistleblower was “close to a spy”; and then he shockingly alluded to execution as he went on to say, “You know what we used to do in the old days.” Daily Kos’ Kerry Eleveld wrote about that here, but the Los Angeles Times has the leaked audio from the breakfast, and, frankly, you need to hear Donald Trump in his own words:
Incredibly, even after Trump’s comments became public, The New York Times publicly revealed that the whistleblower is a CIA analyst who specialized in Ukraine. That’s about as close as you can come to naming the person directly, as not many people fill that role at the CIA. Read more about that in this analysis from Mark Sumner.
