Mike Pence is putting on a show of impeachment-time loyalty to Donald Trump in a way that just so happens to boost his own visibility in battleground House districts. Pence will be traveling to a series of Republican-leaning districts won by Democrats in 2018, trying to make those new House members pay for supporting an impeachment inquiry.
Pence is heading to Iowa to target Rep. Cindy Axne on Wednesday and then to Rep. Angie Craig’s Minnesota district on Thursday. He’s also slated to head to campaign against Rep. Elissa Slotkin in Michigan and Rep. Abigail Spanberger in Virginia, among others.
The message, according to a spokesperson, is that “While the ‘Do Nothing Democrats’ attempt to distract with their endless investigations, the vice president and this administration are laser focused on policies that put Americans first and make our country great.” You know, like repealing the Affordable Care Act and tax giveaways for corporations and wealthy people.
The Republican Party and a Trump-allied super PAC have already been airing digital ads against potentially vulnerable House Democrats who support an impeachment inquiry.
