An explosive new book from inside the Trump White House appears to be set to tell us what every other book from a former member of this White House has already said—Donald Trump is incompetent, incomprehensible, a petty tyrant who flies into rages at the drop of a hat, and a frequent hat dropper. In other words, it exposes everything that’s already visible to the most casual observer. Only it does so with the imprimatur of a White House official. Or it would, except the author is anonymous.
This book is being produced, supposedly, by the same unnamed official who penned a New York Times op-ed in August of 2018. That article, claiming to come from “the resistance inside the Trump White House” offered momentary thrills inside the beltway, and thundering rage from Trump, who considered it proof he was surrounded by a collection of deep state rats.
However, unlike the whistleblower complaint that kicked off the current impeachment inquiry, the op-ed provided no actual information that might be used to replace or even “resist” Trump. In fact, the author of this particular op-ed confessed to believing that this White House “resistance” wasn’t at all about resistance. They wanted everything Trump wanted, they just wanted him to be more classy about it. “To be clear, ours is not the popular ‘resistance’ of the left,” they wrote. “We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.” So, the bold author of the op-ed was someone who approved of kids in cages, selling of national monuments, and turning the military to the highest bidder. They just didn’t like how Trump made their right-wing white nationalism look so … tacky.
In fact, despite the title, the whole purpose of the op-ed was to inform America that we should all not worry about actually opposing Trump, because, “Americans should know that there are adults in the room.” Adults who were “trying to do what’s right” by making Trump’s chaotic rhetoric into effective policy.
And now there’s to be a book. A book which, according to The Washington Post will also be anonymous. From another right-wing insider telling us nothing but how they fought the good fight to make the jailing of infants more efficient. It’s not just anonymous, it’s worthless.
