Donald Trump called off joint military exercises with South Korea to move diplomacy along with North Korea, but that wasn’t enough to get North Korea to agree to another in-person meeting with Trump.
On Sunday, Trump tweeted, “You should act quickly, get the deal done. See you soon!” to Kim Jong Un. But North Korean official Kim Kye Gwan responded, “We are no longer interested in such talks that bring nothing to us. As we have got nothing in return, we will no longer gift the U.S. president with something he can boast of, but get compensation for the successes that President Trump is proud of as his administrative achievement.”
Got it? Trump gives North Korea something in the form of calling off military exercises, then practically begs for a meeting with Kim Jong Un, only to be met with “We are no longer interested in such talks that bring nothing to us. As we have got nothing in return, we will no longer gift the U.S. president with something he can boast of.” In other words, North Korea has Trump’s measure: He’s weak and he’s desperate.
