That wasn't true just before the 2000 election.
But a plurality don't think it's a major problem, which is less concern than just before the 2000 election.
So, John Q Public thinks there's more crime, the neighborhood is less safe, but there's bigger fish to fry.
Either the economy and terrorism are really worrying people, or they're getting inured to crime.
Ennui in the face of lawlessness ... yeesh.
