Six people are
reported dead, and more are believed to be among the rubble after an explosion at the Italian police headquarters in Nasiriyah, Iraq.
Only hours earlier, a bleak CIA report became public, spreading through Washington and Baghdad, warning about increased civilian participation in attacks, growing coordination, and a great abundance of weapons. It warned of unrest spreading to the comparatively calmer northern and southern areas of Iraq. Nasiriyah is in Southern Iraq.
Details remain sketchy hours after the attack, as few reporters are stationed in Nasiriyah, which had previously been considered relatively calm.
