Let's connect the lines here. Over the weekend, The New York Times reports the FBI is snooping on anti-war protestors. Now, the IRS is auditing the NEA for (allegedly) mis-reporting political activities.
The Bush administration is using their institutional power to harass and intimidate political opponents.
A problem with their logic is that NEA members know their union is politically active, and they overwhelmingly support it. If someone doesn't support the politics, it is quite easy to not be a member, and have the "maintenance fee" taken out of your check, rather than the full union dues.
Not that it matters too much, but I'm an NEA member.
