A California Senate Committee voted 3-1 to
ban all electronic voting in the November election. The move comes on the heels of Kevin Shelley's ban on the use of Diebold machines in four counties, and a placing of strong restrictions in 10 other counties. The bill is co-sponsored by Don Perata (D-Oakland) and Ross Johnson (R-Irvine).
While most of this activity is in response to Diebold's poor performance in the last major election, I think the message has finally gotten through to our legislators that Internet connectivity and suspect software programs in general are a real threat to free and fair elections. I applaud these moves. The bill needs 2/3 passage in both houses and the Governor Groper's signature to pass.
