I didn't see it, but according to this article, Mrs. Cheney is taking a somewhat more "tolerant" stance on gay marriage than her husband and W. She was on CNN today (or will be later tonite?)
It opens:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife and mother of a lesbian, said Sunday that states should have the final say over the legal status of personal relationships.
That stand puts her at odds with the vice president on the need for the constitutional amendment now under debate in the Senate that effectively would ban gay marriage.
"I think that the constitutional amendment discussion will give us an opportunity to look for ways to discuss ways in which we can keep the authority of the states intact," Cheney told CNN's "Late Edition."

It goes on to talk about her gay daughter. She certainly never makes any powerfully affirming statements about gays and lesbians, but she is making public a less homophobic viewpoint on the issue. I wonder why? Is she doing this purely as a matter of conscience, feeling guilty about the way her party is treating her daughter and her partner? Is she putting a "compassionate conservative" story out there in case this blows up in W's face? It will also be interesting to see if she provides any cover to moderate Repubs later this week who may not want vote for the Hate Amendment.
