I have a couple of comments about today's editorial titled "The Long
Shadow of War."
The first is that the author mentions that the new memos
regarding Bush's service have had their authenticity questioned. This
implies to the reader that the "questioning" has been done by some
authoritative voice that might have educated insight in to the matter.
This is not the case. It is an amateur observation amplified by partisans
eager to see nefarious activity behind all reports of republican
shortcomings. Secondly, the piece ends with the hope that Bush will
retain important lessons from his time in service. The reader, however, is
left wondering what kinds of lessons he might have learned, beyond the
ability of his status to get him out of any unfortunate circumstance he
might find himself in.
