I certainly don't understand why he would
refuse to comment. . .
The hot rumor in New York political circles has Roger Stone, the longtime GOP activist, as the source for Dan Rather's dubious Texas Air National Guard "memos."
The irony would be delicious, since Rather became famous confronting President Nixon, in whose service a very young Stone became associated with political "dirty tricks."
Reached at his Florida home, Stone had no comment.
Roger Stone also managed Al Sharpton's primary campaign, which many thought was intended to be a dirty trick to harm Democrats among swing voters (although it didn't turn out that way). Maybe others who worked on Sharpton's campaign can get the real story here from Stone.
Just found
this weird quote from Stone:
Best reason to vacation in Spain: "It's pathetic that we are fighting over John Kerry's war record in Vietnam and George W. Bush's service in the National Guard given that there are a bunch of Islamic maniacs who want to wipe us off the face of the earth. I'll be on a beach in Barcelona." -- Longtime Republican operative Roger Stone on why he missed his first Republican National Convention since 1968.
It's quite odd that Stone didn't attend the RNC convention. Perhaps he's on the outs with Rove??
