McCain was on Hardball tonight and Matthews grilled him pretty mercilessly on how he could support Bush with the war in Iraq going so badly. McCain actually was visibly shaken. Then McCain finally came up with "that moment with the firefighter on the megaphone."
Yes, the "Megaphone Moment". That Historic, Mythic, Amazing, Churchillian Moment of Bush's Transcendence... let's parse it, shall we?
First of all, he should have been there on the 11th. So it took him until three days later to deliver his amazing 9/11 moment. But I digress.
Secondly, the "moment" sprung "spontaneously" after he was attempting to talk to the crowd through a microphone and
couldn't figure out how to work the button.
"We can't hear you" someone (Roger Stone? Lucy Martinez?) yells.
Bush fumbles again, and miraculously pushes the correct button! "Well I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon."
A. "Well I can hear you".
Smartass comment, but we'll let it slide.
B. "The rest of the world hears you".
Okay how the f*ck is the entire rest of the world hearing a throwaway comment, off-microphone, at a live event?
C. "And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon."
The people who knocked the buildings down were killed in the process. And the ones who masterminded 9/11 are still at large.
And this IS BUSH'S GREATEST FREAKIN' MOMENT???!! The reason McCain clings to so desperately, the reason Red State America sees him as the Greatest Man Since Jesus?
Yeah, that's a Great Moment in History. And McCain woulda been a great VP... for me to poop on.
