Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark was endorsed on
Monday by the Vermont based tribe Abenaki Nation at Missiquoi
which has members in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts
and Quebec. The endorsement of the tribe, which is headquartered
in Swanton, Vermont, adds to the growing list of endorsements by
the American Indian and Alaskan Native community. Leaders of the
tribe, which have never endorsed a candidate before,
joined Clark at the Museum of New Hampshire History.
"The Abenaki Nation has endorsed General Clark for
President because of his record of leadership and his concern for
the key issues facing Native Americans across the country,"
said Chief Rushlow.
"Native Americans are the first Americans...American
Indians in general and the Abenaki in particular deserve a higher
standard of leadership," said Clark. "I am deeply
humbled by the endorsement of the Abenakis and Chief Rushlow. And
I will not let them down."
