Came across this little tidbit in the Miami Herald's business section this morning:
OIL: Halliburton Wins Bid for Iraq
Again, sorry, but no link - it's in the Business Briefs section where bylines are ascribed to Herald Staff and Wire Reports.
The money sentences (literally and figuratively!):
Despite a Pentagon probe into alleged overcharging for fuel delivered to Iraq, the Army [on Friday] awarded ... Halliburton ... [the] competitive bid to rebuild the oil industry in southern Iraq, a contract worth up to $1.2 billion over 2 years..."
I'm amazed that I missed this very important news that surely was among the top stories reported in the news media?
I've typed in the full text in the extended copy section below so you can, for yourself, be reassured that it's business as usual at home and in our newest colony ...
Despite a Pentagon probe into alleged overcharging for fuel delivered to Iraq, the Army awarded Vice President Dick Cheney's former company a contract Friday to rebuild Iraq's oil industry.
Halliburton won a competitive bid to rebuild the oil industry in southern Iraq, a contract worth up to $1.2 billion over 2 years, the Army Corps of Engineers said in a statement.
The Army gave the Halliburton subsidary KBR [Kellogg Brown & Root] a no-bid contract to rebuild Iraq's oil infrastructure shortly after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq last March."
