The poll showed Dean faring best in urban areas, especially Albuquerque and Santa Fe, while Clark did better in rural parts of the state. It showed Dean polling better than Clark among Hispanic voters, who were Dean's single largest group of supporters. Clark fared better than Dean among Anglo voters.
Dean appeared to have more support than Clark among women-- 20 percent to 15 percent.

In a separate sample of 250 Democratic party activists in New Mexico-- delegates to past state conventions, party central committee members and ward and precinct officials-- Dean's edge over Clark grew slightly.
Dean was backed by 25 percent of the party activists polled, while 21 percent indicated support for Clark.
Edwards' support jumped to 10 percent among the party activists. Lieberman's support among party activists dropped to 2 percent, compared with the 8 percent of regular Democratic voters who favored him in the other sample.
