BEWARE : Kerry may be Push Polling in NH.
If Zogby's trends are correct you can surely bet that they are reengaging in Push Polling.
It was brought to my attention yesterday that Kerry engaged in the most Vile Push Polling in IA. Smears that would embarass Lee Atwater and Joseph Goebbels.
That Dean was an Abortionist
That Dean beat his wife (leveraging the ABCnews Trooper story)
That Judy "was a Jew." Yes, not just jewish but "a Jew."
See, it wasn't just Wilgoren's and Dowd's pieces got Judy out on the Trail, it was bigger than that.
Once Again, BE ON THE LOOK OUT for Kerry and his Push Polling Machine in NH
Checking this blog, there were several reputable Posters who testified on these activities, a few of which I cite in Extended Coverage.
From the most recent Cattle Call Thread
I heard that from my aunt Eunice in Des Moines (3.50 / 4)
My aunt Eunice got a call from a guy doing a poll - she did not know what a push poll was, but she got the message. i called her Monday morning and she said she supported a woman's right to choose, but she could not vote for an abortionist. i asked her why she thought Dean was an abortionist she said she got a call from a pollster that told her about that. She said the pollster started with basic questions but then went onto particulars about Dean. She said that the pollster asked:
Would you feel more positive or less positive if you knew about Howard Dean's internship as an abortionist at a Planned Parenthood Clinic?
and:
Would you feel more positive or less positive if you knew about Howard Dean's history of spousal abuse?
and:
Would you feel more positive or less positive if you knew about Howard Dean's desire to remove protections on farm subsidies?
She told me there were a few more questions but she could not remember them. i told her what a push poll was and clarified the issue. I asked her which candidate the poll was run through she said it was from the People for a Democratic America. I have never heard of them, but I doubt any candidate wanted to be associated with such crap.
She ended up going for Kerry because she really did not believe that a pollster would poison the well like that.

[new] What Happened in Iowa.... (none / 1)
Just back from Iowa, and want to do all I can to help people understand what happened there.
First, it wasn't as bad as it looked in the papers. Entrance polls had Kerry @ 29%, and Dean @ 21%. This caucus was the field against Howard, and that created a very unfavorable delegate count.
Basically this Iowa Caucus was the equivalent of South Carolina in '04, (remember what Bush did McCain in SC?) And Trippi didn't see it coming from Kerry, until it was too late.
The gist of it is that Kerry waited until Gephardt
went negative, and then, working through the Governor of Iowa and his network, he went on full scale assault against Howard. (Push-polling, Sadly, the largest part of his final week attack wasabout the "electability" of Judith Steinberg. Was she first lady material? (Hint: being Jewish didn't help.)
Take a look at the graphs, and believe me that behind the comportly demeanor of Iowans, (bless them really),there was a real shitstorm among the gossip mills of small-town Iowa. Iowans were very familiar with the candidates, and preferences don't get turned upside down without some real nastiness.
Through his minions and negative campaigning, Kerry was able to shake a large number of Dr. Dean's supporters. Gephardt, having already gone negative, got a good deal of the blame for the ugliness, and those numbers which didn't go into Kerry's camp where scooped up by an eager and ready Edwards.
At some point in the future, just like in SC '00, we will learn about just what rumors were spread to do in canidate in. Compounding things was the fact that six candidates all with one real political necessity. Stop Dean from winning Iowa.

Push Poll (3.33 / 3)
"People for a Democratic America"
Sounds like what Rove or Tom Delay would call an organization if they were trying to screw with the Democratic nomination.
And no, I don't buy the crap that the Bushies 'want' to run against Dean.
A good rule to follow in politics has always been that if someone is doing dirty politics, check to see who has conservative and/or Republican credentials first. Those people will almost never pass the sniff test.

I hadn't been online since Friday, so I wasn't even aware of the push-polling. Makes sense, though. Yesterday we were hearing from locals that Dean not only performed abortions, but also beat his wife... now we know where that came from. Yeah, that's politics, but if that's the kind of thing that John Kerry does to win I'll vote for him if I have to, but I'm certainly not going to contribute to or volunteer for his campaign before November... no class.

"The undecideds are all Kerry and Edwards, it appears."
Only because Dean and Gep engaged in mortal combat in Iowa for all the world to see. Kerry's push-polling got very little press, but the hot glare of the media is now on him. I still like Dean's chances in NH.

Kerry (way up). But I don't expect it to last. There's only so many states you can stealth push-poll in before someone backtracks the invoice. Unfortunately, his Iraq position represents to me the worst of recent Democratic wind-measurement.
