Ok, the First District Congressional race in New Mexico just keeps getting stranger and stranger.
Challenger Richard Romero has been running ads here saying that Wilson is a "rubber stamp" for the President and votes 90% of the time with the republicans. Of course Wilson denies the charge, but this is where it gets good.

Are Democrats Trying to Steal Rep. Wilson?
Wilson, answering a question on whether young voters should support her, said Democrats have asked her to consider joining them.
"In the last six months, I've been approached more than once about changing my party, to becoming a Democrat," Wilson said Sunday in a debate broadcast on KOB-TV.
Monday, the House's top Democrat, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., disputed Wilson. In a joint statement with Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee head Robert Matsui, the two called Wilson's statement "absolutely preposterous."
"It is absurd for Heather Wilson to masquerade as a Democrat in the final days of an election," Pelosi and Matsui said.
Of course, I don't really think anyone around here is buying that. At least I hope not. At the end of the article it states that Wilson used to be a democrat when she was in her 20s. I think she's scared by the poll numbers she's seeing and is grasping at anything to save herself. Latest poll conducted Oct. 5 shows Romero within 1 point.
[editor's note, by awnm] The thought just occured to me too that if Wilson is trying to convince swing voters that she's "Independent enough to be a Democrat", will she offend the part of her base that votes for her because she's a card-carrying Republican. This could seriously backfire on her if she's not careful.
