Tonight we saw, for the first time in baseball history, police in protective gear take the field and remain along the sidelines for half in inning in response to unruly fans.
I hope that a good portion of the country felt a pang of fear in seeing those great field-level camera shots that capture the beauty of the stadium, game and fans all in one, with the pitcher blocked out by a riot helmet and face mask.
This is standard fare in South America and even in some high-profile European matches, but it seems to be a first in US Baseball history.
