I just want to keep you updated on what the buzz is in Jim Newberry's fight against Republican Majority Whip Roy Blunt. Although, it is hard to guage this race simply by articles and letters. Jim Newberry has done more groundwork meeting the people of the Ozarks than any outsider could possibly know, and I have personally heard several life long Republicans who are disenchanted with Roy Blunt's recent involvments with the tobacco industry, veterans cuts, and the Medi-Care Prescription Drug legislation. Believe it or not, I think a lot of people are going to be surprised on election day when this race is MUCH closer than most would have guessed.
In today's Springfield News-Leader, both major candidates for SW Missouri's (MO-7) Congressional race were given space for a personal statement in the 'Ozark Voices' column that appears Sunday through Friday.
Here is what the candidates had to say:
Jim Newberry's 'Ozarks Voices' statement
Roy Blunt's 'Ozarks Voices' statement
Also, in yesterday's News-Leader there was an article that reported on the Newberry/Blunt battle.
There haven't been many letters published from supporters of either side the last couple weeks, except for
one in support of Newberry thast appeared on friday (It is the second letter down the page).
However, to remain somewhat balanced in my presentation of this race to you, I must tell you that the Joplin Globe printed this endorsement of Roy Blunt in today's paper.
