As in: Cowboy Up
I'm still amazed at the numbers of people who have Kerry-Edwards stickers politely taped to the insides of their rear windows. I had done the same thing, but decided three weeks ago that I was being tentative, and I stuck that sucker on my car, but good.
I don't mean to push a metaphor too hard, but there is symbolism here; we need to embrace Kerry completely and unabashedly, because we have to convince ourselves and everybody around us that he's the right guy to be president. Any sign (pun not intended) that we're not whole-hearted in our support just sends a message to the Bush folks and to us, ultimately, that we're not 100% committed. And we can't afford to sent that message, not when the other side is in lockstep AND looking for signs of weakness in us and our candidate.
Maybe you've heard "Faint heart ne'er won fair maid". Well, faint hearts also don't win close presidential elections. We need to take every opportunity to communicate to the world at large that Kerry is the right guy to beat Bush. I'm still kicking myself for letting an opportunity go by a few days ago. A co-worker from another office said Kerry lost her when he argued with Charlie Gibson on Good Morning America about whether he threw away his ribbons or his medals. WTF? The standing president can lie like a rug about the reasons for war and any number of things, and Kerry's muddiness about
30 years ago is grounds for not trusting him?
Unfortunately, I did not point that out. I should have. Let's stay focused, let the world know how we feel, be COMMITTED. Let's skip the typical Sunday afternoon whining on this page about how bad some polls look and go GOTV.
Do not be faint of heart. Winning a battle like this takes commitment and courage, and if that seems hokey and corny to you, get past it. Kerry up, my friends. The future of OUR country depends on it.
GOTV!
