Bush strategist Karl Rove said Thursday night that the campaign's private polls show the president even or ahead in eight of the 10 battleground states -- including Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin and New Mexico -- with leads outside the polls' margins of error in four. He predicted a victory for Bush but said "the next five days are critical."

Now, the fact that Bush's internals are being spewed by Rove and Cornerites, as Atrios has said, is clearly an attempt to pump up the troops. Let's break it down:
10 BGs:
1)FL
2)OH
3)PA
4)WI
5)MN
6)NM
7)IA
8)MI
9)NV
10)CO(?)
Let's speculate about which states Rove says their polls show Bush outside the margin of error. I can see CO, NM, IA and NV. Ok, fine. Have at 'em, Rove. The two that Kerry likely has outside their margin of error is PA and MI. So, the true BGs-the states that Rove says are "even" are WI, MN, OH and FL. That is my assumption of where Rove thinks the race is.
Fair enough?
Now I ask you, who is really playing defense here? If even Rove's internals show FL and OH being too close to call, it would make sense that they would try to make a play somewhere else, since their is little chance of them boosting the President's ratings at this late stage, especially with all the bad news floating around.
What do people think of this?
