Spent past week in Columbus, OH working with ACT GOTV effort. ACT people told me absentee ballots already submitted by democrats in OH exceed by good margin republican absentees. This is a first. (Parties can track absentee ballots submitted.)Normally GOP absentees far exceed democrats in OH but this year ACT and others got lots of folks to sign up for absentee ballots. Only elderly and ill folks can vote absentee in OH so it's not huge numbers, but it sure is a good indicator. What are some indicators in other close states with early voting? Any insider reports?
The trends for OH look encouraging: 200,000 more democrats than GOP voted in the primary. They've registered more than 100,000 voters at ACT alone and several hundred thousand in total in the state. Nader is off the ballot and he got 90,000 votes in 2000. Every voter ACT signed up in OH will receive six contacts on election day to get them to the polls. And thousands of volunteers will be walking the neighborhoods to help folks.
I know 2 million Floridians have already voted so somebody must have some exit numbers or guesses to share for that state.
