Ok, so we are tired of the '08 handicapping. There are however some important races next year that deserve some attention:
NYC Mayor: I get mixed reactions on this one. Some say Bloomberg is ok, he is essentially a Democrat and they dont mind him. But some he is beatable. IIRC, he squeaked by last time, despite the fact that Giuliani endorsed him and the election was two months after 9/11. Any good challengers?
Governor:
New Jersey: Corzine is running and will probably win. Possible opponent Christine Todd Whitman has grown less and less popular in the state. Corzine is popular and has lots of $$$, so he can self-finance. Great! Apparently, he will appoint Bob Menendez to his senate seat, which is up in 2006. Now, Im really stretching, but if Menendez(or whoever it is) does a decent job for a year + the power of incumbency, we should hold the seat in 06.
Virginia:
Most important race next year IMO. Warner is term limited, Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine is up against AG Jerry Kilgore, and the barbs have started flying. Apparently Kaine has bad name recognition b/c Lt. Gov is a weak position in VA. With our help, and with Warner's, hopefully he pulls through. A Dem as Governor could help Warner in 06, or help turn the state blue if Warner is on the ticket in 08(oops, sorry handicapping again :). Kaine website: www.Kaineforvirginia.com. Now, I know we are all tapped out of money and the holidays coming up wont help. But it wouldn hurt to bookmark the site, maybe sign up for his report, and give later next year.
Courtesy of TealVeal: some questionable contributions to Kilgore's campaign: Kilgore has received $10k from KBR for this election specifically and about $29,100 total since 1997. He's also got a shitload (around 25k) from Pat Robertson.
